The above video was recorded on Facebook Live from my personal FB account. You can connect with me there or Men, you can join in on the conversation at our Closed Men of Abundance Community. Just request access.

kapolina gazeboMy son and I were sitting on the beach last night. He had is hot chocolate and I was eating a cup of yogurt with honey. Normally I would have a coffee or a drink of some sort. I had just gotten home from work and he was home all day because there was no school today.

I was sitting, watching the wave roll in, feeling the salty breeze on my face and watching my little guy run and jump on the gazebo as he often does. He just can not sit still for a minute. But then, neither can I. Well, I can sit longer than a minute but my mind is always all over the place.

D3, in case you don’t know, I refer to my boys as D1, D2 and D3 because all of their names start with D. Anyway, D3 was talking about all the stuff and worlds he built in Minecraft today.

He asked me “Dad, do you like to play in Survival Mode or in Creative Mode?

mind craftIn Creative Mode of Minecraft you get to create these amazing structures, tunnels, caves and all kind of cool things in various worlds. The player uses various tools such as picks, and dynamite to blast through the digital rock and earth. They build amazing worlds and then they destroy them and start over.

In Survival mode of Minecraft, game mode, players get to collect resources, build structures, battle mobs, manage hunger, and explore the land in an effort to survive and thrive.

When D3 asked me that question, a memory popped into my head of when I was just playing my life in survival mode. And was wondering about the difference in survival mode and creative mode as it pertains to life. Real life that is.

So, when I got held up by a submarine on my commute to work (that’s not a comment you may never hear from anyone else) I decided to ask my FB peeps the question

Are you playing in Survival mode or Creative Mode?”

You can see some of the comments below and I would love to hear your comments.

You could be in both creative and survival mode on your way out of survival mode. And that is certainly recommended. By me anyway.

But ask yourself, how long have you been in survival mode? Is your creativity and resourcefulness paying off? Are you moving the needle at all? If not, you may need to look at the actions you’re taking? Is what your doing enough? Is the actions your taking the right actions?

If I may make a suggestion. I suggest you find someone who is where you want to be in life, or at least on their way to where you want to be, and study them. If they have a book, read it. If they have videos, watch them. If they have a podcast, subscribe and listen to every episode. If they have a course, take it.

You may even know someone in your life who appears to be living the life you want. They may be well beyond survival mode. Spend more time with them.

I want to caution you. Some people appear to be living the life you want on the surface. Make sure their life is not a facade.

Don’t let that hold you back. Just be aware of who you decide to take on as a mentor or a coach. Especially before you spend any amount of money with them.

So, Are you playing in Survival mode or Creative Mode?

Let’s here it. Share your thoughts in the comments.

Go out and life your Life Of Abundance. And make sure to pay it forward.
