Those closest to you will always see you as you were…

dont-let-other-peoples-opinion-of-you-become-your-reality

In most cases, those closest to you want the best for you. The problem is, those closest to you know you best. Sometimes your friends and family even know you better than you know yourself. Well, they feel they do anyway.

In reality, those closest to you know who you were. They know who you have been, as long as they have known you. They know who you wanted them to believe you were. Or maybe, you’ve been showing them the side of you they wanted you to be.

And now you’re saying, “ENOUGH is ENOUGH. I am not the person they want me to be. It’s time for me to be the person I want to be.” – You

I want to prepare you for what’s to come or point out what you’ve been experiencing.

When you first start that new endeavor, naturally the first place you seek support is from those closest to you. Right?

Well, you might want to prepare yourself for some push-back from them and disappointment on your part. But don’t dwell on it. I want you to brush it off.

I know it’s easier said than done. I know because I’ve been there. Often times, friends, family and those closest to you will not give you the level of encouragement you want and need. In fact, most will give very negative feedback. Well, it will come off as negative to you at the time.

Some of your close friends and family will think they are protecting you from heartache and sure failure. I assure you, when you pursue any new venture, you will experience failure. Everyone does.

What those closest to you don’t get is failure is a requirement of success in any venture. Especially in entrepreneurship. Sure, you can minimize the failures. But you can not eliminate failure.

I can use many analogies to prove this point. One that comes to mind is this one.

What do you have to do to get physically stronger? Can you just go to the gym and lift a comfortable weight a few times and wake up the next morning stronger than you were the day prior?

Hell know.

You have to go the gym with a partner. You have to push each other to push until muscle failure. Notice I said muscle FAILURE.

And you have to go back every single day to fail over and over again. You wake up sore as hell. You have self doubt. Your partner quits on you so you have to get another workout and accountability partner. But you keep pushing through and you will get stronger in mind and body.

So when those you love who are closest to you, tell you “You’re going to fail if you do that.”

Tell them, “I know. And I look forward to that opportunity.”

That fact that those closest to you will not support you is even mentioned in the Bible when Jesus said…

“A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”

So, when your closest family and friends tell you…

“Get your head out of the clouds”

“You’re just not cut out for that”

“You should stay with what’s safe and your comfortable with”

I encourage you to connect with other people who are doing what you want to do. Read their books. Study their courses. Hang out on their Facebooks groups. Do whatever it takes to get around the people who are where you want to be.

Remember, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Good words Wally. It reminds me of a scripture that Jesus stated.

“A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”
