Waiting on the Sunrise while writing in my Journals. Where do you Journal?

I used to be the guy who laughed at those guys in the gym using some sort of journal to keep track of every rep, the weight the lifted and every thing they did. I just found it odd.

Then I realized those guys are among the few who are actually getting results.

You’ve heard many times, “If it’s not written down it’s not going to happen.” Well, if you haven’t heard that before, you have now.

The fact is, journalling is not just a smart thing to do, it’s critical to your success. Regardless of what you do.

I believe the first time I heard of journaling was when I read the book, Think and Grow Rich. Napoleon Hill mentioned journaling many times throughout that book. Just about every coach, mentor and personal development guru talks about journaling.

Even though I’ve known the importance of journaling for many years, I still found it difficult to get started. I’ve tried the journal apps on my smart phone. I just could not stick with it. And thought thought of my personal thoughts being captured and stored somewhere in cyberspace did not sit easy with me. Besides, there’s something about putting pen to paper.

Now keep four different journals. And I write in two to all four of them every single day. Well, almost. I’m still not perfect on this habit. But I am much more consistent. And, the journaling is making a difference in so many ways.

The four journals I keep are:

  • My goals journal. In this journal I right down most important goals every single day. I guess since I write the same thing every day, it’s not really a journal. But this is the one I make sure I write in every day.
  • The Freedom Journal – Accomplishing Your Goal in 100 Days, created by John  Lee Dumas. Thanks to this journal, I get to start every single day with an Attitude of Gratitude. I then go on to map out my day and then recount my progress at the end of the day. This journal is what kept me on track to finally start my Men of Abundance Podcast.
  • Things I love about my wife Journal. Just about every single day I write in this journal a few things I love most about my wife. Much of this journal is private. When I first started this journal, I wrote in it for about 6 months before I let Trayce, my wife, read it. I gave it to her as a give one year for her Birthday. To this day, it has been the most impactful gift I’ve ever given her. Now I let Trayce read this journal about once a month.
  • Private thought Journal. This journal is my private thoughts. We just leave it at that.

Rather you believe it or not, Journalling is vital for so many reason. If anything, it’s a great way to clear thoughts out of your head so you can make room for more Abundant thoughts.

Yes, this really is Wally’s front yard.

Where you journal is just about as important as journaling itself. My favorite place to journal is on the beach across the street from my house. As you can see in the video. But just about any quite place will do.

Don’t let location, fancy books or anything deter you from journaling. Just start journaling. And if you miss a day or two. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Just continue from where you left off.

Share this with others as you see fit.

Get your own Freedom Journal. John Lee Dumas, fellow Veteran, is the creator of this amazing tool.

BTW, in case your wondering, I only get the satisfaction of giving by sharing this with you. Which is an amazing feeling in itself.

My Wife and I started writing notes to each other every single morning before work in a notebook. She would write hers the night before cause I left so early! We still do this!
It’s a great reminder that we recommit every single day and that we are loved.
